Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige refused to divulge much information about the crossover plan but Joe Russo had a suggestion.
Taking a lesson from the lukewarm reception[1] of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2[2]", the untitled new Spider-Man movie[3] starring Tom Holland[4] will enter a bigger universe. It has been confirmed that the standalone movie will feature other superheroes.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures had previously come to an agreement to share the character of Spider-Man[5]. The webslinger will make an appearance in Marvel's upcoming "Captain America: Civil War[6]" and some of the heroes will return the favor.
"He is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth," Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told EW. He seemed to decline specifying which characters would pop up in the July 7, 2017 film.
It's unlikely that Robert Downey Jr.[7]'s Iron Man[8] and Chris Evans[9]' Captain America would make cameos because the actors are only in contract for "Civil War" and two other "Avengers" movies. However, Joe Russo, who directed "Civil War" with brother Anthony Russo, gave a hint. "Let's just say ... Great Lakes Avengers," he said.
