It is apparent that some supernatural force is in their home, and it is determined to get the new occupants out. House Of Darkness: What True Events Inspired This Movie?
Lifetime Movie Network's website says that House of Darkness is inspired by a San Francisco family who endured tragic events due to a sinister spirit that invaded their home. In trying to find the basis for the movie, we did find some similarities in the movie and some real events that have occurred. Since House Of Darkness is inspired by true events, this most likely means that the movie is inspired by more than one true event. Perhaps producers took pieces of several true events to shape the story.
In AV Club[2]'s write up about House Of Darkness, the writer states that Brian has some jealousy issues that have causes stress in the marriage.
"It turns out that Brian is not, in fact, over his jealousy issues, signaled by his immediate scowl once he sees Kelly waving at the sexy new neighbor and her always-shirtless boyfriend."
The article also states that the movie begins with a scene from Halloween 1957, before it skips to modern times.
In scouring some old newspaper articles from 1957, we came across the case of Peter Fabiano–a man who was having marital problems with his wife, Betty. It is alleged that Betty became involved in a lesbian love affair with another woman named Joan Rabel–a freelance photographer.
Betty left her home and moved in with Joan Rabel for a time. But then, Betty wanted to work on her marriage and return home to Peter. Authorities say after Betty went back to her husband Joan Rabel became so enraged with jealousy that she plotted with another woman to murder Peter Fabiano. The plan was carried out on Halloween night in 1957. That's when Peter Fabiano answered his ringing doorbell and was shot and killed in his doorway. The case is known as the 'Trick Or Treat Murder,' according to the Los Angeles Times[3].
The movie's title, House Of Darkness, is also similar to the book 'House Of Darkness House Of Light' by Andrea Perron, which tells the story of a mother who moves her children out to an old farmhouse, where they are tormented by a series of dangerous and strange supernatural events. The book description reads this way.
"Roger and Carolyn Perron purchased the home of their dreams and eventual nightmares in December of 1970. The Arnold Estate, located just beyond the village of Harrisville, Rhode Island seemed the idyllic setting in which to raise a family. The couple unwittingly moved their five young daughters into the ancient and mysterious farmhouse. Secrets were kept and then revealed within a space shared by mortal and immortal alike."
The Perron's story was the basis for the movie The Conjuring. Don't miss this exciting new thriller. House Of Darkness airs this Sunday, April 17 at 8 p.m., on LMN. Inquisitr recently wrote about another movie called Stolen From The Suburbs[4].
