"They grab on you, yank on you," Norman Reedus told the Daily News by phone as he fended off several hands that poked through the vehicle's window when it stopped at a light.
Actor Norman Reedus dodged a horde swarming him as he escaped into a waiting SUV.
No, "The Walking Dead" star wasn't filming a scene for his hit zombie television series. Those were just the usual autograph seekers lumbering around as he made the press rounds in New York City for his new movie, "Sky."

"They grab on you, yank on you," Reedus told the Daily News by phone as he fended off several hands that poked through the vehicle's window when it stopped at a light. "But sometimes when you get a mob of people together and it's all frantic, bad things happen. One of the security guards got cut. So many people were leaning on each other that the bars were falling down. It's manic."

It's no wonder during his hiatus last year from "The Walking Dead's" notoriously grueling shoots in Georgia, Reedus would opt to film a compact indie drama like "Sky." In the movie, which opened Friday, Diane Kruger plays a French tourist who abandons her abusive husband to start a new life in Nevada. Reedus plays the emotionally and physically damaged veteran who falls into her orbit after mistaking her for a call girl.
"In one of the first movies I did, I cried the whole time," said Reedus, 47. "Then I got a bunch of crying scripts after that. Now, there is so much zombie stuff going on that every once in a while someone will try to slide a script in. But I don't really get offered the leading man stuff."

But even the usually unflappable biker — he has a new non-fiction motorcycle series, "Ride With Norman Reedus," debuting on AMC in June — got a little flustered by "Sky's" French director, Fabienne Berthaud. It was never more evident than during the intense sex scene with Kruger, which Berthaud filmed with a camera while lying in bed with her stars.
"She'd say something in French and of course I wouldn't understand, but then Diane would move hair out of my eyes," says Reedus.
He's finally had time to digest the mixed reaction to the recent season finale of "The Walking Dead" in which the identity of a major character that was killed off was withheld from viewers.
"If they killed off one of their favorite characters, they'd all yell about that," Reedus says of the fans that flooded social media with their griping. "It's surprising how many people want to see blood. That finale wasn't about who dies, our show is not 'Survivor Island.'"
But he appreciates the passion.
"I've had babies and cows named after me," Reedus says. "And today, in New York, there are 50 people chasing me on bicycles to have me sign stacks of photos. It should be its own reality series."
