Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige still holds hope for an ‘Inhumans’ movie ‘one day’ — but flick is removed from schedule

Marvel's "Inhumans" was originally slated for July 12, 2019.

It's starting to seem that an "Inhumans" movie will be as remote from movie theaters as the blue area of the moon.

Disney officially removed the Marvel superhero flick from its originally-scheduled July 12, 2019 release date, marking a rare misstep for the studio with a mutant ability to churn out blockbusters. The film had already been bumped back once to squeeze in a sequel to last year's "Ant-Man."

And momentum seems to have been lost for the race of super-human beings created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, despite some of the characters' introductions on Marvel's television show, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Rumors even swirled that Vin Diesel would lend his pipes to Blackbolt, an Inhuman leader whose voice could shatter mountains.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, though, told the Daily News recently — prior to the announcement that the movie was officially off the schedule — that this was no nefarious Kree plot: An "Inhumans" movie was definitely part of the company's grand plan.

"I think it'll definitely happen one day, I think it's a great story, with a bunch of great family of characters," Feige told The News. "Their rules and their society is being set up right now on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

But that may not help the characters' big-screen prospects.

Marvel's TV and movie divisions are now under different leadership after Feige successfully wrested control of the latter from notoriously frugal Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter. As with any corporate divorce, it's hard to imagine there's as much communication as there used to be.

Some of the characters had been introduced on Marvel's television show, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

The film's original announcement was part of Marvel's need to squat on several plum release dates, as rival studio Warner Bros. blitzed the next several years with their own batch of superhero flicks. For many of the movies, the scripts weren't even close to completed at the time their releases were being trumpeted.

Feige, though, insists the Inhumans had more heroic work ahead than just reserving a spot on the calendar for their more-well-known super-powered colleagues.

"When that is, will that be in phase 3, will that be in phase 4, I'm not sure yet," said Feige. "Because after we announced that, we did shuffle and add some more films to the mix. I think you will see that movie in the mix."
