Steam expands its streaming movie biz with Lionsgate partnership

Valve bolsters its streaming movie business in a big way this week via a new partnership with Lionsgate that will see over 100 big-budget films added to Steam's movie catalog[1], with more to come in the months ahead.

What this means, for developers, is that your games will now be sharing space on the platform with major motion pictures like The Hunger Games, Jackie Brown (pictured) and Scary Movie 3, though to what extent these films will be promoted to Steam users remains to be seen.

Valve has been selling and streaming films through Steam for some time, but until now feature films have been scarce. Last year Warner Bros. started offering the Mad Max films[2] through Steam alongside Avalanche's Mad Max game, but otherwise Steam's film offerings have been primarily game-related documentaries, comedy specials, and anime.
