Spoiler Alert! Jake Gyllenhaal Reveals He Has No Idea How His Favorite Childhood Movie Ends – Here's Why

Be careful with spoilers if you're ever around Jake Gyllenhaal.

The Demolition star recently told PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle that because of a somewhat ironic quirk involving his father, the filmmaker Stephen Gyllenhaal, he missed out on the final moments of many childhood movies.

"My dad would tape stuff on VHS off the TV, and then it would run out," Gyllenhaal, 35, recalled during The Jess Cagle Interview. "So we'd see, like, the first 8/10ths of almost every movie and never know the end. Which has obviously informed most of my movie choices, if you can tell. The ending is always unresolved."

He added, "I remember watching Pete's Dragon when I was a kid, and I'd just never know what happens at the end ... It was my favorite movie, I had a Pete's Dragon shirt, and I still have no idea how that movie ends." (Gyllenhaal may be in luck, however, as Disney is releasing a remake of Pete's Dragon this summer.)

As for television, the Gyllenhaals did enjoy one show to the end, at least for one season. "Beverly Hills, 90120, I remember seeing the first season with my sister [actress Maggie Gyllenhaal], and staying up late," he said.

Demolition, directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and costarring Naomi Watts and Chris Cooper, is out now.
