Ghostbusters’ Movie Details Possibly Leaked — Original Actors May Not Play Doctors [Spoilers]

Ghostbusters is returning to the big screen and with it an all-woman cast who must deal with the paranormal. It appears that a Reddit user, who claimed to work post-production[1] on the movie, gave explicit details of the plot, according to Cinema Blend. Also, the roles of other actors from the original movie were possibly leaked.

That being said, this moment forward, Slimer has declared this spoiler territory!

The plot summary revealed an opening with a familiar set-up similar to that of the original movie, only the place of the haunting was at a New York City mansion or hotel. In place of a frightened librarian from the 1984 Ghostbusters movie was instead a tour guide finishing up her round of tourists.

Keep in mind that back in 2014, there was a Sony Pictures email leak[6] regarding Paul Feig's vision of the reboot, as he likened it to Night at the Museum, according to Verge. It looks like the opening sequence has its similarities.

Cue the Ghostbusters tune, but it appears to be a "psych-out" or misdirection, because it cuts to a fictitious Ghost Jumpers theme song on some TV show playing in the back ground.

That's just for the beginning. Last year, there was a pitch made by director Paul Feig that was coined by Cinema Blend as "hysterical and weirdly perfect." So perhaps by doing a side-by-side comparison of the post from the supposed Ghostbusters post-production Reddit user, Stantz1984, one can get an idea of how closely matched the movie synopsis is.

Stantz1984 talks about a rivalry between Kristen Wigg and Melissa McCarthy's characters. The leak revealed that McCarthy's Abby Yates' character attempts to sell a book on Amazon, with Wigg's character's name, Erin Gilbert, on the book.

Going back a year ago, Feig's pitch includes a book[7], but the Consequence of Sound website reported, via the Boston Herald, that the two are touted as "unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real[8]."

There's nothing about the conflict between the two characters that are said to be at odds with each other in the Ghostbusters reboot.

There's also the matter of the original actors, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, both of whom are said to be in the film. According to Yahoo Movies, the director stated he would not reveal their roles[9].

What is known is that they don't play doctors.

However, the leaked information indicated their roles with Murray being a "skeptic" and Aykroyd as a taxi driver. The Guardian reported last year that the original Ghostbusters actor tweeted about working on the set[10] with the current actresses, but it was later taken down.

It was then rumored that he was playing a taxi driver, and now the Reddit post indicates that it was indeed the aforementioned role[11]. The cab driver allegedly gives a nostalgic nod to the original song as a one-liner.

"I aint 'fraid of no ghosts."

Enter Bill Murray's new Ghostbusters movie cameo as a skeptic, where he is killed off by a ghost in a unique way. The character is questioning the new team at their attempts of capturing ghosts.

Murray joined up to cameo[12] in Feig's Ghostbusters film last August, according to Rolling Stone, and it looks like the comedian was more enthralled with working with the actresses. Although the director said that there hadn't been any Murray shenanigans on set, as the comedian is well known for going viral with such antics, Paul did mention a "classic Murray movie moment."

"As he was doing this role we wrote, he did this one take in particular where like, in Meatballs, where he just bursts out with some big thing. It wasn't scripted."

According to Feig, this moment would indeed be similar to the actor's work in flicks like Stripes, Meatballs, or Ghostbusters.

It is questionable that the leak is even real, according to Cinema Blend. However, like with most writing processes, there exists tweaks and changes that occur from time to time. Consequence of Sound talks about the writing process as "script changes are continuous in these sorts of Hollywood blockbusters."

Although this Reddit post about the Ghostbusters movie summary was made 11 days ago, perhaps this is a version that's not entirely accurate? Although there are similarities, it's not uncommon for unreliable movie leaks to be posted online.

With the new Ghostbusters movie, one can indeed find out for sure come June 15.
