I Hate Your Favorite Movie: Film critic John Serba talks 'Money Monster,' 'Elstree 1976'

The title of this week's podcast is in the spirit of every movie sequel or prequel these days: "I Hate Your Favorite Movie: Episode II - With John Serba."

Please note the presence of both a colon and a dash in said title. You know, like "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens." Or "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2." Or "Sophie's Choice: Chapter XIX - The Resurrection."

My minor rant about punctuation trends in movie titles is but one tangent I take this week, urged on by producer and co-host Eric Hultgren, MLive's marketing director. I start out discussing and reviewing new releases "Money Monster," "High Rise" and "Elstree 1976," before deviating to vaguely related topics.

It's all Eric's fault. He's the one who asked me if Sandra Bullock is getting all of the good roles now, instead of Julia Roberts. And it's at that point Roberts' TV-director character in "Money Monster" would tell me to stick to the damn script.

Also this week, I hate a movie that hardly anybody saw. It's a recent release. It's a very unsuccessful ripoff of something very successful. It's both a sequel and a prequel. It has a colon in the title. You'll have to listen to find out what it is. Hint: It rhymes with "Blunt's Fan."

And it hurts me to shred it, because I'm such a fan of Blunt.

The episode borders on irrelevant, because right now, every theatrical release exists in the shadow of "Captain America COLON Civil War."
