In some interesting Thor: Ragnarok news, actor Mark Ruffalo did an interview recently and spilled some beans on the new movie. While the first Thor movie featured Nick Fury and Thor: The Dark World took place with Loki as his only real ally outside of the Asgardian warriors, it sounds like Thor: Ragnarok will be bringing in another member of The Avengers for a major role.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Mark Ruffalo, who plays The Hulk for Marvel Studios, said that Thor: Ragnarok will play out like "an intergalactic buddy road movie[1] with [Bruce] Banner and Thor."
That comment about Thor: Ragnarok brings up memories of an interesting line from Captain America: Civil War. When Secretary of State Thaddeus Ross was trying to convince Captain America to sign the Sokovia Accords, he made mention of super-powered beings running wild and asked if Captain America even knew where Hulk and Thor was.
The last that the heroes were seen, Thor was heading back to Asgard and Hulk was going into hiding, feeling guilt for the destruction when Scarlet Witch took control of him. While the heroes knew where Thor was going, Hulk's disappearance was concerning because he might be wanted by authorities despite the hypnosis.
Since Thor: Ragnarok is named after the classic Norse mythological story of the death of all Gods, one has to wonder what Hulk could have to do with this entire situation. That answer might come in another film that featured Hulk and Thor.
[Image via Disney]That was the animated DVD called Hulk Vs. In that film, Loki used a spell to control Hulk and then sent the big green giant on a rampage into Asgard. Thor had to fight Hulk to stop him from destroying Asgard while Banner was trapped inside the monster, unable to control the creature. With Ruffalo's talk of a "buddy movie" between Banner and Thor for Thor: Ragnarok, that could be only a small part of it.However, that could also explain another Ruffalo quote from the same interview.
"The Hulk gets Hulk-ier. The Hulk Hulks out. Hulk-ier and bigger."
While Loki was controlling Hulk in the animated movie, the Thor: Ragnarok movie will feature a "big bad" in the very powerful and dangerous Hela, played by Cate Blanchett, a character that Ruffalo called the "worst of the worst" and someone who just wants to kill everyone.

In the comics, Hela is the Asgardian goddess of death. She is based on the classic Norse goddess Hel. In the comics, there was an ongoing storyline where she was trying to steal the soul of Odin, and with the end of Thor: The Dark World, that could seriously come into play in Thor: Ragnarok. There were even comics where Hulk ended up in Hela's realm, so there is a basis for this from the comics too.
It should also be noted that the Banner and Thor buddy movie might refer to The Hulk and not the human Banner. Cinema Blend reported that Ruffalo said the two may be one and the same now[6].
"It's very subtle, but the Banner/Hulk consciousness is beginning to meld a little bit. Who decided to leave? Was it Banner or Hulk? It's not really in the (cinematic) mythology of Hulk up until that moment to be that conscious and pro-active. It's interesting, right?"
However, Thor: Ragnarok is supposed to be about Ragnarok. This is the event in Norse mythology that is similar to Revelations in the Bible. It foretells of a giant battle that results in the death of all Gods, including Odin, Thor, Loki, and all the rest. All that remains after the battle are two humans who repopulate the world and a small number of surviving Gods who meet up to witness the new world.
Of course, that won't happen in the Marvel Universe, although there is a chance that Thor: Ragnarok could see the death of the Norse Gods or the destruction of Asgard. In the comics, the Gods relocated to Earth after Ragnarok and that could be a huge moment for the heroes on Earth, and Marvel has said from the start that Thor: Ragnarok will cause major changes in the movie world.
