After ridding Gotham City of crime, saving the world in interstellar space and folding Paris on itself, Christopher Nolan has begun production on his new film, the World War II epic Dunkirk in France. Now, the official synopsis and the first images from the sets have been released.
Here's the official synopsis released by Warner Bros.:
Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.
Nolan has assembled a cast full of faces both familiar and new. Leading the film will be Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, and Fionn Whitehead. Aneurin Barnard, James D'Arcy, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan, Tom Glynn-Carney and One Direction's Harry Styles round up the supporting cast.

Nolan is shooting the movie on IMAX and 65mm film with his Interstellar cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, and the following images shared on Twitter by photographer Pierre Volot[2] tease the grand sets of the film.
Once again, it looks like Nolan is favouring practical effects of CGI. It would also appear that he is using matte painting backdrops instead of greenscreens and real extras instead of artificially rendered armies.
