The world may have come down hard upon Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice[1], but it still has made over $864 million at the worldwide box office. A lot of the blame and negativity is being placed on director Zack Snyder, and numerous fans have called for him to be removed from any future projects in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). While he is still the director of Justice League[2], fans will be happy to know that Ben Affleck is now the executive producer.
Deadline is reporting that Affleck has taken on[3] a much bigger role for Justice League as it seems he wants to make sure that things are done right. Now, he won't just play a big part on camera, but behind the scenes too.
Affleck is going to step back into the role of Bruce Wayne and Batman to truly start building the DC Comics superhero team that will compete with Marvel's Avengers at the box office. Having Affleck as such a big part of the film-making process is an incredibly smart move, as Warner Bros. knows that the Academy Award-winner has the skills to make it right.
Collider believes that this could and will very well cause Justice League to be met with a much better reception[4], and not just from the fans. Critics will now know that Ben Affleck had something to do with the film that is more than what he does on-screen.
Affleck is still doing other work, but he is putting a lot of focus and attention into re-launching the Batman franchise and making it successful. He has teamed with DC's Geoff Johns to write the solo Batman film[5] and the duo have creative control to make of it what they want and what the fans want.
Warner Bros. and DC were truly expecting this to be the big-time launch of their comic book movie franchise and expectations were easily at the $1 billion mark. Since that hasn't, and likely won't, happen, many are left wondering if the rest of the universe will be successful.
Ben Affleck may simply be looking to bring their confidence back and let them know that the DCEU is going to be treated with kid gloves and made to their liking.
Justice League is going to have a huge cast with Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Mamoa, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, Willem Dafoe, and many others. It is set for release on Nov. 17, 2017.
Justice League Part Two is currently scheduled for release on June 14, 2019.
Ben Affleck went from starring in a couple of films as Batman to having his own solo film, getting almost complete creative control[6] over it, and now becoming the executive producer on Justice League. Many fans would love to see Zack Snyder stricken from the Warner Bros. lot, but that doesn't seem as if it will be happening. At least now, they can find some comfort in knowing that Affleck wants to make sure all is well.
