SAM Lowes is being touted for a move to the blue riband MotoGP class next season.

The Derby-based Moto2 rider finished fifth after a battling performance in the most recent round of the series at Brno in the Czech Republic at the weekend.

The Speed Up star had started from 13th place on the grid and his performances this year, including a victory in Texas, have attracted the attention of some of the sport's top teams.

Principal among them is Aprilia, whose team boss, Romano Albesiano is an admirer of Lowes' bravery and speed.

Lowes, whose twin brother, Alex, rides in the World Superbike Championship, will next be in action in front of his home crowd in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone a week on Sunday.

The Swadlincote-based Anvil Hire Kawasaki team will field only two riders in the next round of the British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park on Sunday.

Lead rider Richard Cooper parted company with the squad after a troubled meeting at Thruxton last time out and he has now joined the Buildbase BMW outfit.

That leaves Filip Backlund and Shaun Winfield to fly the flag for the Anvil Hire outfit at the Lincolnshire circuit.

Team manager Steve Randle said: "The whole team are reinvigorated after the three-week break and we're fully focused ahead of Cadwell.

"We know it's a big weekend for the team but we're fully confident that Filip and Shaun are up to the task and can bring home two good results come race two on Sunday.

"Cadwell is a tough circuit but one we know our riders like."

Kyle Ryde resumes his quest for the British Supersport Championship aboard his PacedayZ Yamaha at the same meeting.

The Jacksdale rider is currently second in the championships, 28 points behind Luke Stapleford, who won both races last time out.
