Portland Thorns forward Alex Morgan criticized the National Women's Soccer League last week for providing inadequate hotel accommodations after the Thorns stayed at an Adam's Mark Hotel in Kansas City that had bed bugs.
Following the incident, the Oregonian/OregonLive decided to take a closer look at the hotels that visiting NWSL clubs stay at in all nine of the league's markets to determine whether the problem in Kansas City was an anomaly or part of a bigger issue.
What follows is a list of the official hotels that home clubs secure for visiting clubs in each NWSL market. The list was provided to The Oregonian/OregonLive by the NWSL.
After the Thorns' experience in Kansas City, FC Kansas City made the decision to secure rooms at a new hotel for the remainder of the season. The new hotel is included in this list.
Home clubs are required to secure rooms for visiting clubs in 3-star hotels. One hotel on this list is a 2.5-star hotel, according to Expedia. Room rates listed are the lowest rates found on Expedia for a room with two beds. In one case, the rate for a room with one bed was used because no option for a room with two beds was given. NWSL clubs secure preferred rates at hotels, so it is likely that they pay a lower rate for rooms. All the hotels listed appear to have decent reviews.
