MotoGP Brno: New engine, fairing for Ducati - crash.net

Ducati will try to regain some recently lost ground by debuting new engine and fairing parts at this weekend's Czech Republic MotoGP.

After early season heroics by Andrea Dovizioso, then a sterling runner-up finish by Andrea Iannone at home in Mugello, the best Ducati has been locked 20-seconds from victory at the past four rounds.

"I am really happy for the development [by Ducati]. In this race me and my team-mate have a new fairing and new engine," Iannone said on Thursday. "I've never tried them before. For sure I'm curious, but I can't say [what difference they will make] until after tomorrow."

Iannone qualified third and finished fifth while riding for the satellite Pramac team at Brno last season, using last year's GP14.

Looking to this weekend, Iannone has high hopes for the GP15 since the character of the Brno circuit is similar to Mugello, where he took his first MotoGP pole and a career best second in the race.

"Brno is really similar to Mugello, especially the braking and the corners," he said. "For sure the GP15 has good agility and this is a really positive point at this track. Also the GP15 engine will help me a lot on the long straight, because it is really strong.

"But I don't know what will happen this weekend because the last five races have been difficult for me and my team. So I hope to improve a lot in this race."

Iannone lost third in the world championship to Marc Marquez last Sunday at Indianapolis, but has scored points in every round and remains two places ahead of Dovizioso.

"I've improved a lot this year as a rider, but for sure I think [the lack of mistakes] is because the GP15 has a lot more 'margin'," Iannone explained. "It is more easy to come to the limit and when you push the feeling is a lot better than last year. This is important to not crash."
