Gabe Eggerling is one smart, young actor you won't want to miss out on! He stars in Amazon's new show The Kicks which is based off of the book series created by World Cup Champ Alex Morgan!! We got the opportunity to ask Gabe about the show and also his new role on Sofia The First which will be airing tomorrow on Disney Junior at 9:00am!! But since we still have some time, make sure to check out Gabe's interview below!
Fanlala: So tell us about your new show The Kicks.
Gabe Eggerling: The Kicks is based off of World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Alex Morgan's book series. The story is about a soccer star Devin Burke who is about to become team captain of her club team when she has to move to California with her family and learn to fit into a new life. I play Bailey Burke, Devin's younger brother, who is taking the move in stride and would be happy anywhere as long as I have a laptop.
F: Describe your role and what i t was like playing him.
GE: Bailey is "not a ball-catching person". He is interested in all things tech and even has a stellar following on his social media. As a gamer myself, it was easy to relate to the character of Bailey, although I do love sports and play tennis and team soccer. Bailey teases his family, but they are all very close and support each other. It is nice to be a part of a show that represents positive relationships.
F: Being that this story was based on Alex Morgan's book series, were you able to meet her? If so, what was she like?
GE: I did get to meet Alex Morgan the day she worked on set for the pilot! To have accomplished so much in her life, I was blown away at how nice of a person she was. After Alex's scenes were shot, we got to take silly pictures with her and chat for a while. While we were hanging out at our trailers, she signed my World Cup ball and The Kicks book series!
F: What do you think the audience will connect to t he most when it comes to the story line?
GE: Well, I think people can connect to moving into an unknown; whether it's a new school, a new neighborhood or even a new country. It can be tough to fit in as an outsider, and in the pilot Devin definitely felt like one. We have also received great reviews about connecting to the family dynamics, friendship and of course soccer. I feel like there is a little something for everyone in The Kicks.
F: Are you a big sports fan? If so, what's your favorite team?
GE: Yes, I love sports. My favorite to watch has to be hockey, and I love the Anaheim Ducks (they are my home team!) My family and I go to as many games as possible, and we also know Teemu Selanne, a legend player who just retired from the Ducks. I also like College Basketball. My mom, Grandpa and I fill out brackets every March Madness, cheering for Duke to win!
F: Tell us about your upcoming projects
GE: I voice a new character on the season 3 premiere of Disney's Sofia the First which comes out tomorrow, August 5th at 9AM ET/PT. I play a mer-boy named Fluke. After becoming jealous of all the attention that the other mermaids are giving to Sofia, Fluke tries to impress the group by performing daring stunts and winds up getting himself, Sofia and Oona (Kiernan Shipka) trapped inside of a sea beast's cave. It was extra special for me because I recorded my first solo on this project! I also have voice over roles in two animated Weinstein feature films, Santa's Apprentice and The Three Robbers, releasing towards the end of the year. I just received my copy of the children's book The Three Robbers by Tomi Ungerer, and the illustrations are insanely cool. As a book collector, I feel so grateful to be a part of so many projects that are based on books.
We love how active Gabe is! Not only is he an incredible actor but he has a great time keeping up with reading as well as sports! So make sure to check this guy out on Amazon 's The Kicks as well as Sofia The First!!
