It's not a simple equation to connect the 'irreverent and meta' Deadpool to 'something as grounded and serious as X-Men,' according to Bryan.
Bryan Singer discussed a possibility of bringing Deadpool[1] into a future "X-Men" movie. In an interview with Variety on a press rounds for "X-Men: Apocalypse[2]" in London, the director revealed it's not a simple equation to connect the two franchises.
"If you take a character as irreverent and meta as Deadpool and connect him to something as grounded and serious as X-Men, you have to do it carefully and gently," Bryan said. "When you dr op them all in together it can be a disaster. That has to be done delicately, but there's plenty of room to do it."
One of the ways to bring Deadpool into the "X-Men" universe could be through an "X-Force[3]" movie, the paramilitary superhero spin-off group that Deadpool has called home over the years. Bryan had brought the title up to his Fox bosses and Ryan Reynolds[4] previously revealed a project centering on the group is a priority.
Bryan is bringing "X-Men" franchises into TV with series like "Hellfire" and "Legion[5]". He serves as executive producer for both shows. "I think the underbelly [could be explored]," he explained, "There's always something interesting about a school that's got a military aspect beneath its classrooms. Is there another layer to all of that? Is there another layer to the Hellfire Club? The idea of, 'Who's running the world?' "
"That's something that was touched upon in 'First Class' but has yet to be fully explored," he added, "It just has to be explored in a very gentle, methodical way. And I've seen it go haywire. I'm not going to be specific where I believe it has. The audience will tell you. But when it's don e right, it all can connect."
There have been rumors that Bryan will leave "X-Men" franchise, but it will definitely be not easy for him. "When you spend nearly two decades in a universe, to simply say, 'I'm done,' or, 'I'm going to abandon it,' just wouldn't make sense to me," he shared. "I'm very connected to this universe and a lot of these actors, and also the characters, whomever plays them. So never say never."
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to be released in the U.S. on May 27.
