The controversial Deadpool movie hasn't even hit theaters yet, and already star Ryan Reynolds is talking sequel… with a very specific X-Men related character appearing alongside his fiery merc-with-a-mouth.
Similar to the event film that is Batman v Superman, Ryan Reynolds talked the possibility of a Deadpool movie featuring his foul-mouthed character squaring off against none other than fan-favorite Cable at a NYC fan event[1] earlier this week, as reported by Comic Book Resources.
"Your lips to God's ears, my friend…Believe me, that's being talked about," Reynolds and director Tim Miller teased fans with when the subject of a Deadpool movie sequel featuring Cable came up.
For those not familiar with the character, Cable actually appeared first in the pages of New Mutants back in 1989, followed about ten issues later by Deadpool. Created by Rob Liefeld and Louise Simonson, the popular gun-toting, shoulder pad-wearing mystery man was later revealed to be Nathan Summers, the son of X-Men character Cyclops and a clone of Jean Grey named Madelyne Pryor. Nate was whisked away[2] into the future in X-Factor #68 during a battle with current X-Men movie villain Apocalypse who infected the infant Summers with a techno-organic virus that threatened to claim the child's life, as detailed by Comic Vine. The resulting virus resulted in some of the most notable design elements of the character including his cybernetic eye and arm.

X-Force #1 sold a then record 5 million copies, trumped only a month later by the release of X-Men #1 from Jim Lee and Chris Claremont. The character also spun out into his own limited series from X-Force scribe Fabian Nicieza and artist John Romita Jr., exploring Nate's past growing up in the future.
Years later, Marvel released the series Cable and Deadpool, also written by Nicieza, pairing the characters up in "buddy movie" fashion. The series lasted fifty issues and built up a cult following amongst fans, which explains the exuberance on display at the Deadpool movie fan event should the Ryan Reynolds led film get the greenlight for a sequel.
Of course, sequel talk for the Deadpool movie is premature at this point. For one, the film has to battle its own R-rating. According to Comic Book Dot Com, there were some scenes in the movie that had to be cut for going too far[4].
"There was a bunch of stuff, honestly," director Tim Miller said. "There's also a bar scene that had to be cut down – because Ryan Reynolds and T.J. Miller are vulgar, vulgar people."
Image via Fox Movies[5]Comedian T.J. Miller plays the character Weasel in the Deadpool movie and apparently, he and Ryan Reynolds, known for their improvisation skills took the scene too far.
"That bar scene was particularly mean and offensive to a lot of people because T.J. and Ryan got together and wrote a version of the scene that we just said, 'Oh my God, this is too far.' I mean there were so many people offended it would have really been – we couldn't do it. It was just mean and so I said, 'No. We don't have to do that.'"
And even though Ryan Reynolds has said he would fight to keep the R-rating[6] for the Deadpool movie, as reported by Cinema Blend, there is a group of fans actively petitioning a PG-13 rating so their kids can enjoy the film as well. What this does to ticket sales will determine the validity of a Deadpool movie sequel featuring fan favorite Cable.
