David Bowie: Jennifer Connelly, Kelly Clarkson’s Touching Tribute Proves ‘Labyrinth’ Movie Was Magical [Video]

When speaking about the movies of David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly's touching tribute to the untimely death of the rocker shows the world how magical Bowie was as Jareth the Goblin King. Connelly was only a teenager at the time, but she recalled how being in the film was like being in wonderland, and she described Bowie as one who made the entire experience magical.

Some fans would agree. Created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, Labyrinth told the story of a young girl who tasked with watching her much younger baby brother. The Goblin King snatched the child up, and she must find him by following the trail through the dangers of the vast labyrinth for which the film was named.

Unfortunately, the 1986 Jim Henson movie failed at the box office. Like the other Henson project The Dark Crystal, it was fairly dark for a kids' story that featured Henson's muppets as the star attraction. Despite the financial failure, the film eventually gathered a cult following based, largely, upon the David Bowie's acting.

Bowie brought his outrageous punk rock fashion sense from the concert stage onto the movie screen. No one can forget his hair, never mind how he delivered some of his lines from the movie.

Shortly after David Bowie's death, Twitter was filled with reminders of how the actor seemed to fill the screen. But, even before he passed away, there were many still making references to how Bowie looked.

Jennifer Connelly's David Bowie tribute[11] is just a little more touching than that. She recalls how he made the experience magical for her with his presence on the set.

"[Bowie] was very warm. He was lovely," Connelly recently told Entertainment Tonight. "He was just a nice, sweet guy — cracking jokes and friendly with the crew."

On Twitter, Kelly Clarkson also recalled how Bowie's characterization of the Goblin King was a memorable part of her childhood.

Connelly recalls the movie's "beautifully designed" sets making it feel "like wonderland" to her. Jim Henson passed away many years ago, but Connelly still remembers him with fondness.

"I loved Jim Henson, and David Bowie was so sweet to me," said the now 45-year-old actress. "[Making] it was probably more fun than watching the film. It was a really special experience."

The actress said she had "so much admiration for him," especially Henson's "gentle spirit."

"He was really genius," she added.

The same might be said for David Bowie. May he rest in peace.
