MotoGP Misano: I was pushing and this can happen - crash.net

The last time Marc Marquez suffered four non-finishes in a season was as a 125cc rider, in 2009.

The Repsol Honda star is now all but certain to suffer his first title defeat as a MotoGP rider, having fallen 77-points behind Valentino Rossi after a fourth DNF of this year in the Silverstone rain.

The Spaniard will thus focus on adding to his three race wins during the remaining six rounds, starting at Misano this weekend, while likely to find himself in the middle of the title duel between Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo.

"Obviously I'm disappointed to have crashed out of the race in the UK, but I was pushing and this can happen when the weather is like that," said reigning double champion Marquez. "Of course the championship is getting further away from us but we were back fighting at the front and this is definitely a positive.

"Now we head to Misano which is a pretty small and slow track. We were testing there before the summer break so I hope the data from that test can help us with the setting this weekend. It's a delicate balance getting the bike right to suit the demands on braking at this twisty track and let's hope the weather is nice after last weekend!"

Last year at Misano, Marquez was pushing to stay with race leader Rossi when he slid off at a slow right-hander, re-joining to finish 15th.

Team-mate Dani Pedrosa rode to fifth place in the Silverstone rain and will be seeking his first podium since Germany this weekend.

"Silverstone wasn't the race I - or anyone - was expecting. I felt positive over the course of the weekend, but on Sunday - in the rain - I struggled to find a good feeling," said Pedrosa, who won at Misano in 2010. "We finished the race, which is important, but this weekend I hope to make another step forward to fight at the front.

"Misano is a special place and always has a great atmosphere. Let's hope the sun comes out and we have good weather all weekend so we can start working hard from Friday. It's a short lap but intense with many overtaking points and it's quite bumpy, so set up is key. Let's hope that the work we did there in testing will assist us."
