MotoGP Japan: Honda hands Takahashi MotoGP debut at Motegi - crash.net


Takumi Takahashi has been handed his MotoGP debut by Honda on a wildcard entry for the manufacturer's home race at Motegi.

The Japanese rider currently acts as a HRC test rider alongside his commitments in the All Japan Road Race Championship for MuSASHi RT HARC-PRO.

The three-time winner of the Suzuka 8 Hours is set to become the first Honda wildcard entry in the premier class since Shinichi Ito in 2011.

Takahashi, who will ride a Honda RC213V for Team HRC, has thanked the manufacturer for the opportunity to shine and hopes to meet the goals set by the team in the Japanese Grand Prix.

"I have been involved in a few pre-season MotoGP tests at Twin Ring Motegi before, and have seen how the world's best competitors ride," Takahashi said. "I'm enthralled to be offered this opportunity to compete with the world's best riders. I'll be giving it my best to live up to everyone's expectations."

Honda has also confirmed Yuki Takahasi and Tomoyoshi Koyama will b e given wildcard entries in Moto2 at Motegi, while Ryo Mizuno and Keisuke Kurihara will race in Moto3 on Honda NSF250R machines.
