The Western New York Flash finished their season on a high note with a 3-2 victory against the Portland Thorns on Friday night at Sahlen's Stadium.

The victory snapped the Flash's four-game winless streak.

The Flash didn't waste any time, scoring in the seventh minute. Michelle Heyman passed the ball to Samantha Mewis, who took it down the field. Mewis then found Halimatu Ayinde, who scored her first goal of the season.

One minute later, Heyman chipped the ball over the Thorns' keeper Michelle Betos to Jasmyne Spencer, who tapped the ball in to give WNY the 2-0 lead.

Mewis then got a goal of her own in the 24th minute, putting it past Betos to the bottom of the far post to put Western New York up by three goals.

Portland then got on the board when Alex Morgan threaded the ball through two WNY defenders on a pass to Jodie Taylor. Taylor put the ball past Chantel Jones in the bottom corner for the goal to make it a 3-1 game.

In stoppage time, Jones mishandled a shot from Mana Shim and Taylor Long took advantage for Portland's second goal.

The Flash will miss the postseason and finished the regular season at 6-9-5.
