Indy MotoGP 2016: Status?Update: IMS Web Site Will Allow '16 MotoGP Event Ticket Salesby staffTuesday, September 01, 2015

The status of the 2016 MotoGP event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is unknown.

At the event last month there were stories of daily meetings between MotoGP rights holder Dorna and IMS, with at least one of the conflicts between them being the cost of shipment of the bikes and equipment.

IMS representatives said after the event that they would not be surprised if it took until September for a decision to be made on their MotoGP event.

After the Circuit of Americas round of the championship this year, the track offered tickets to their 2016 event. Indy did not.

Historically, the MotoGP calendar is usually released or leaked around the time that the championship hits Misano or Aragon. Misano is in two weeks time.

When Laguna Seca lost their MotoGP event, one of the first (hard) indications they received regarding their event status was when the MotoGP calendar was leaked by the Spanish press and Laguna Seca was not on the calendar.

Indy has enjoyed two successful MotoGP races in a row, with the 2015 event showing an increase in ticket sales over 2014.

Rumors at the Indy event had World Superbike replacing the MotoGP race. Conversely, locals suggested that if Indy could not come to terms with Dorna regarding a future MotoGP event that the race may be replaced with a sports car endurance round.

Update: the IMS web site is accepting orders for 2016 MotoGP event tickets.
