MotoGP Indianapolis: Barbera out to bolster Open class status - crash.net

Avintia Racing's Hector Barbera is confident of strengthening his position as the top Open class rider in MotoGP at Indianapolis on Sunday.

Barbera currently leads the way in the Open standings and believes he can come through to challenge some of the satellite and factory riders this weekend at the 'Brickyard' in the USA on his Ducati GP14.

"I didn't like too much Indianapolis but last year they made some changes on the layout and I think this would be good for our Ducati," he said.

"During the last weeks I've been relaxing on the beach, but combining it with my physical training. I did lot of miles with the bicycle and I head into the second part of the season very strong, physically and also mentally.

"In Germany we went back to the place we should be, so I think it's possible to be the best Open bike in every race and maybe try to fight with the factory bikes."

His Avintia team-mate, Mike de Meglio, achieved his best result in MotoGP at Indy la st year with a 12th place finish and is excited by his prospects on the GP14.

"I really like Indianapolis. Last year I made my best result in MotoGP with the Avintia bike, so I'm really curious to see what we'll do with the Ducati," he said.

"This is a very powerful bike and this could be and advantage for us in the long straights of this track. During the summer break I recharged my batteries, the first week I just rest and relax myself, but during the last two weeks I've been working hard to be ready for the second half of the season.

"I'm very motivated: we just scored points one time this year and I'm really looking forward to finish the season with good results."
