X-Force’ Movie Is On Ryan Reynolds’ Priority List — Says Deadpool Is In ‘His Own Universe’ Outside ‘X-Men’

The X-Force movie is being penned by Jeff Wadlow, and Deadpool's Ryan Reynold's sat down to have a discussion[1] with FilmStarts about the film. The actor touched a bit upon X-Force being on his list of priorities for the future. He also mentioned how Deadpool pretty much exists outside of the X-Men movie influence, even though characters like Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead make their appearance. Reynolds gave his input[2] on how others thought the timeline change may have an impact on the Deadpool movie via X-Men: Days of Future Past, according to a report by Comic Book Resources.

"I really don't think this has anything to do with 'Days of Future Past' or its timeline. If it were Deadpool, he could tell 'Days of Future Past' to take its timeline and go f*** itself."

It looks like Reynolds is keeping in sync with his on-screen Deadpool character using colorful metaphors off-screen. He goes on to say how they poke fun about timelines in the movie, which makes sense as it seems to run in the same vein of the Deadpool comic book shtick when making jokes and breaking the fourth wall.

If Deadpool picks up and moves forward with future movies, Ryan Reynolds is indeed open to exploring the world of the X-Men.

"There's so much material to mine in just the X-Men universe. In the future, if we're doing a bunch more 'Deadpool' movies, we're really going to explore the X-Men a lot. We'll see. And maybe X-Force — X-Force is my priority."

The X-Force movie subject was discussed with Reynolds about seven months ago in a report by Cinema Blend. The actor wanted Cable to lead the X-Force team[7], and Fox has access to several characters. Ryan has toyed with the idea of "potential crossover" possibilities and has been questioned regarding Deadpool leading the X-Force. He says the nature of the character is more of a nonconformist.

"I always see Deadpool running against the grain for everything he does. He can't possibly conform to any sort of leadership role. He always has to be the wild card. So you'd have to have someone like Cable running point on a team like X-Force. I'd love for that to be a next step that we take."

This could work, considering both characters had their 50 comic book run of the Cable and Deadpool series which made for good buddy stories. The run of comics placed at number seven on the 10 Greatest Buddy Teams[8]. The appeal of this series was namely the "book's mix of humor, action, and intricate plotting," according to Wikipedia.

Other X-Force members from comic book history could join the team such as Psylocke, Cyclops, and Wolverine. Since Fox owns other mutant characters, if allowed, they could join the ensemble. Domino could also be a possibility; sometime last year she was included in a teaser picture[9] posted by concept artist Greg Semkow, according to Screen Rant. It was a fascinating set of characters in impressive poses which sparked rumors about whether or not these were indeed the chosen X-Force movie team.

Jeff Wadlow is the writer of the X-Force movie. In an interview reported by Screen Rant, he talked about what his favorite characters[14] were from the ensemble. This was perhaps to get an idea of what thoughts were bouncing around in Wadlow's head when considering the roles for the film. He spoke of already existing characters from previous movies and the possibility of "re-imagining" those characters. He also mentioned Cable and his fondness for Domino, Psylocke, and the ever popular Wolverine. It was Screen Rant's theory regarding Jeff's "re-imagining," that brought about rumors the Cable in X-Force could be of the Ultimates comic book series.

The X-Force movie has no release date yet. Included in the ensemble of writers are Wadlow, Deadpool's own Rob Liefeld, and Fabian Nicieza. Lauren Shuler Donner is set to produce.
