2016 ‪MTV Movie Awards‬ To Be Hosted By Kevin Hart And ‪Dwayne Johnson

The 2016 ‪MTV Movie Awards will be going down in April, and the stars of the upcoming action-comedy Central Intelligence, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart[1], will be hosting the award show. Casey Patterson, MTV Movie Awards executive producer, says the duo are going to be the perfect hosts, specifically because the two stars are so interactive with their fans. In Patterson's words, they embody everything that a great movie star is supposed to be.

"We want to do a big, brave thing to celebrate movies," Patterson says[2]. "We love Kevin and Dwayne for doing big, risky, bold things. Most award shows play it safe. They're the right guys to take big swings."

"It's an honor to be hosting the 'MTV Movie Awards' with a guy who's not only one of the funniest guys on the planet, but who's often mistaken as my twin, Kevin Hart," Dwayne Johnson said. "We live for our fans and promise to make this an epic, historic unforgettable night for them."

Kevin Hart added, "I love hosting — it's my thing. Dwayne and I are the perfect team for the epic 25th anniversary show. It's going to go down."

One very interactive and new element Johnson and Hart are bringing to the mix is the fact that they are asking their fans to help them write the promos for the award show. On Saturday, February 20, Dwayne and Kevin will be hosting a live-stream event, where they will be reading the responses they get. For the MTV Movie Awards, this is definitely a first, and Hart and Johnson reportedly came up with the idea themselves. Apparently, the tone and vibe of the show is going to be very loose, and this creative promotional tool only adds to that.

The 2016 MTV Movie Awards marks the 25 year anniversary for the award show, which means it's going to have to be very special. In addition to the hosts and their unconventional promotion tactics, this show will be pre-taped across the Warner Bros. backlot, the day before its live broadcast on April 9. This is unlike most award shows, since this will allow them to film at multiple locations and be even more creative. It sounds as if Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson will have a lot of input in the script, and this also gives them the ability to really capture the magic of filming on a backlot. The award show is being filmed right in the heart of where a lot of movies are made, which certainly gives the entire MTV production a completely different and original feel.

Patterson also says that diversity is going to be another big element for this year's MTV Movie Awards. Given the recent Oscars controversy with the lack of diversity and inclusion, this seems like an appropriate and necessary response, when celebrating movies at an award show. MTV doesn't have an academy of voters who are predominately white men in their 70s, so that certainly works in their favor. Not to mention, they're showcasing diversity with the show's two hosts, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, one who is African-American and the other who is half-black and half-Samoan.

"We are just organically diverse," Patterson says. "The beautiful thing about the MTV Movie Awards is that we're not based on an academy or any outside organization. We really just represent the fans and the films that they love to see and it's just organically diverse — it just is."

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart will host the 2016 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, April 10 at 8 p.m.. Their live-stream when they will participate in the fan-directed promo will go down on Facebook Live, YouTube, Periscope, Meerkat and YouNow starting at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, February 20.
