With the rise of Deadpool and how his movie has been smashing the box office, next we will see Capt. and Iron fight, and on Memorial Day weekend, we'll see the X-men stop Apocalypse from taking over the world. In the fall, Marvel has a movie coming out that fans are still excited for, and his name is Doctor Strange.
When announced that Marvel will be creating his movie and that Benedict Cumberbatch will be starring as him, fans went wild as well as fans of Cumberbatch. With any marvel movie comes questions, like who is Doctor Strange? How does he fit into the Marvel world? Is he a good guy or bad guy? Let's answer a few of these questions by taking a look at what he is and let's get to know Doctor Strange.
Origin Story:
1. Stephen Strange
Born in 1930 to Eugene and Beverly Strange, he was the eldest child. At age two he welcomed a sister into his family named Donna Strange. At around age 11 he welcomed a brother named Victor, and due to his sister's injury, the experience made (or at least inspired him) to pursue a medical career.
After high school, Stephen attended a pre-med school in New York college. When he returned home for his nineteenth birthday, him and Donna were out swimming, and sadly, Donna got a cramp and drowned. When her body was found, Stephan was determined to finish medical school.
2. He Really is a Doctor (NOT DOCTOR WHO!!)
After his medical school, Stephan was a gifted neurosurgeon. Though as any doctor who think they are the best, he was selfish and only cared for the money he was making off his career. But any pride can be damaged. After a car accident that injured his hands, Stephen refused to take help or teaching methods to help restore his hands.
After all failed attempts of getting his hands to work again, he went to the Himalayas. There he met the Ancient One. The Ancient one is a hermit, who turns him away at FIRST for his selfish ways, but accepts him after he opposes a plan to kill his (the ancient one's) apprentice, he accepts him as his pupil.
3. Basically "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"
After denying the plan to kill the Ancient one's apprentice (who is named Baron Mordo), the Ancient one accepted him. Though he could not heal his hands, he taught him the mystic ways. After his training was complete, Strange became the new mystic sorcerer.
Though Marvel may explore the bit of his origin story, I have a feeling they may start when he becomes a selfish Doctor, and as the movie progresses, we'll see how he learned his powers.
Superhero Stage:
1. He has his own Base
Like any superhero, Doctor Strange has his own base. Iron man has his tower, Nick Fury has a star carrier (basically) and Batman has his bat cave. (I know it's DC but still a good example). Now sadly, Doctor Strange does not have a Tardis, that he can travel through time and space, but he does have the Sanctum Sanctorum, which is a three story mansion. Like the Tardis, it's bigger on the inside.
To the ordinary eye, it looks plain, but this is where Doctor Strange calls home. It's here he can study his magic, and keep items that are weird looking or have a funny shape, safe from the world.
2. The Assistant
Now any superhero has his assistance or "partner in crime" Like Iron man has Jarvis, of course Batman and Robin (or boy wonder), Doctor Strange, has Wong. Wong is not only his partner but also his man-servant. Wong is also Chinese Decent and knows nothing in the ways of the magical arts.
Wong, is knowledgeable in the mystic ways and he's great at marital arts. Wong has also trained Doctor Strange in the marital art ways as well. He is also seen in other comics training other Marvel characters as well.
3. His Love
Now this is a cute love story. Clea (his love's name) is also a a mystic like him but she is "Dark Dimension". Basically she was sent by Dark forces to kill Strange, but she ended up falling in love with him and fights by his side. Pretty sure we know what they do when not fighting crime (wink wink).
Like Wong, Clea also fights crime along side Strange. You have to admit it's a cute love story and I hope we see it play out ion the movie.
4. Enemies
As any superhero that signs on to a be a hero, we have enemies (unless you're Deadpool). Doctor Strange has two BIG enemies and a few on the side, but let's just focus one named Dormammu (talk about tongue twister). Now what do bad guys usually try to do? Well if your answer was "take over the world" you are correct in some ways, but Dormammu's missions is to take over other dimensions. Also his head...well it's on fire...all the time
Now yes he is bigger then Doctor Strange, but like any bad guy, I have a feeling he'll fail in the end or run off, you pick.
5. A Loner but with exceptions
Like any superhero, most work alone but if we remember the Avengers, they work in a group when the world really needs it, but then split off to do their side missions. D octor Strange is the same way. He leads a team named the Defenders. A team that consists of, Nighthawk, Hellcat and Gargoyle.
FUN FACT: Also apart of this team (at times) is hulk who will show up when needed and Luke Cage. (Who is getting a Netflix series so excited!!)
There you have it, a few facts about Doctor Strange. We'll see this hero in action when November rolls around this year. Entertainment magazine has released a few picture of the set and also an interview with Cumberbatch on bringing his character to life. Stay tuned and watch out for trailers to come in the near future and keep your ears open for "Easter eggs" in Civil War that may protein to Doctor Strange.
