Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Kevin Hart to Host ‘2016 MTV Movie Awards’

Show marks its 25th anniversary in April

"Central Intelligence" stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart[1] will host the "2016 MTV Movie Awards," the 25th anniversary of the special.

And this time, they're all going outside: For the first time ever, MTV will take the telecast entirely outdoors and onto the backlot.

Here's another first: MTV is letting its audience write and direct the show's official promo campaign with the hosts via multiple simultaneous livestreams. Tomorrow, beginning at 2 p.m. ET, the event will broadcast across Facebook Live, YouTube, Periscope, Meerkat and YouNow, giving fans the chance to direct the guys via comments and tweets using #movieawards.

Once complete, MTV will utilize the footage for promos airing across linear, digital and social platforms, crediting the fans that helped create the content.

"It's an honor to be hosting the 'MTV Movie Awards' with a guy who's not only one of the funniest guys on the planet, but who's often mistaken as my twin, Kevin Hart[3]," said Johnson. "We live for our fans and promise to make this an epic, historic unforgettable night for them."

"I love hosting — it's my thing," added Hart "Dwayne and I are the perfect team for the epic 25th anniversary show. It's going to go down."

"Dwayne Johnson[4] and Kevin Hart[5] define what it means to be modern movie stars," said Executive Producer Casey Patterson. "They have a direct and personal relationship with their fans, who love them for it and have made them two of the biggest entertainers in the world."

She concluded: "They are bringing the action and comedy to the big 25th anniversary of the 'MTV Movie Awards,' which makes me excited and frankly a little afraid. Double trouble!"

Performers and presenters will be announced at a later date.

Casey Patterson and Garrett English serve as executive producers for the "2016 MTV Movie Awards." Lee Lodge, Jane Mun, and Jim Roush serve as co-executive producers.

Wendy Plaut serves as co-executive producer and executive in charge of Celebrity Talent. Sandy Alouete is executive in charge of Music Talent.

This year's show will tape at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif. on Saturday, April 9, to air on Sunday, April 10, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
