CBS is also preparing a television reboot of Richard Dean Anderson series
Lionsgate will produce a new film based on the TV series "MacGyver," the studio announced Friday.
"I'm pleased to announce this morning that we're partnering with CBS to reinvision the 'MacGyver' franchise for film and television," Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer[1] said during the studio's Q3 earnings call.
The film will be produced by "Fast & Furious" and "21 Jump Street's" Neal Moritz[2] and "MacGyver" creator Lee David Zlotoff.

CBS has also given a pilot order to a television reboot of the series as well. from writer and executive producer Paul Downs Colaizzo, the show is a reimagining of the television series of the same name, following a 20-something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.
Michael Clear and Henry Winkler[4] will serve as executive producers on the pilot from CBS Television Studios. James Wan[5] will direct and executive produce
Richard Dean Anderson played the title character for seven seasons on the original ABC drama series, which followed secret agent MacGyver as he used his scientific knowledge to find creative solutions in high-pressure situations.

Will Forte[7] previously starred in a 2010 spoof of "MacGyver" titled "MacGruber," which was based on a character from his time on "Saturday Night Live."
