NEW YORK — Alex Morgan is confident her injury will not be an issue during the World Cup.
The starting forward has been nursing a bone bruise in her left knee since last month that's kept her from playing in all of the U.S. national team send-off games.
She won't be playing Saturday against South Korea at Red Bull Arena (4:30 p.m. ET, ESPN), but has no doubt she'll be fine in time for the Americans' first game in Canada.
"My knee is doing well, thank you for asking," Morgan said during Wednesday's media day for the U.S. team. "I've been doing a lot better and I'm still day-to-day. Once June 8 comes, there's no question in my mind that my knee will not be bothering me. I'll be 100%.
"I'm looking forward to the World Cup and knowing that's not going to set me back at all."
Luckily for the Americans, the forward position is where they have the most depth. In the team's last game against Mexico, Sydney Leroux started — in Morgan's place — with Christen Press and scored two goals. Abby Wambach came in for Press in the second half and scored two more.
