Alex Morgan was a first overall pick by the Western New York Flash in 2011. However, the U.S women's national team star was included in a draft that may have fans even more excited.
The Harlem Globetrotters held their ninth annual player draft on Tuesday and Morgan, among other female sports idols like Mo'ne Davis and Kylie Huerta, were selected.
Morgan, from her early success on the USWNT to her connection with fans, embodies the athlete that the Globetrotters' organization wants as part of their team.
"When we conduct our draft, we look for outstanding athletes from different sports all over the world that exemplify the Globetrotters' efforts to provide service, smiles and sportsmanship globally," said Sweet Lou Dunbar, the Globetrotters' director of player personnel.

Morgan grew up playing several sports, from softball to soccer to volleyball — and yes, basketball. If anything is clear at this point with Morgan, it's that she's a natural scorer — whether it's a lay-up or tap-in — and she'll get it done for her team.
Morgan came through for the U.S. at the Women's World Cup on Monday. Her 53rd-minute strike turned out to be the game-winning goal in the Americans' 2-0 victory in the round of 16. They now advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face China on Friday.
The new face of U.S. women's soccer now has 52 international goals. In Morgan, the Globetrotters have drafted someone who they know will not only score but also smile brightly to fans and continue to put a positive light on women in sports.
