Pope Francis will appear in a religious movie made for families.

His Holiness is coming to a theater near you.

Pope Francis is set to making his movie debut in a religious family movie called "Beyond the Sun," Variety magazine reported[1].

The role will be the first film appearance for a head of the global Catholic church.

The pontiff will play himself in the feature film — from Rome-based distribution and production company Ambi Pictures — about family adventures based on the Gospels.

"Our excitement and gratitude toward His Holiness, Pope Francis participating in this film is beyond words," AMBI co-founder Andrea Lervolino told the magazine.

While originally reported to feature significantly in the film, AMBI's site[2] only says it will feature "an epilogue from Pope Franis telling children how and where to find Jesus."

Additionally, a spokesman for the Vatican told[3] the Guardian, "the pope is not an actor."

The news of the spiritual film comes after the Pope asked movie makers to find ways to communicate Jesus' message to children.

The story will focus on children of various cultures who "emulate the apostles" as they search for Jesus in their world, AMBI said on their site.

All profits from the family movie will be donated to two Argentinian charities for at-risk children and young adults.

The film is expected to begin production soon in Italy.

The Rampage movie has brought on board Colony co-creators Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal. The film will be starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and is helmed by Brad Peyton, according to Collider. One of the writers[1] was associated with Johnson in the movie San Andreas. So it would appear there is a common theme of destruction in both the movies, which is also comparable to the Battleship film, which is based on an interactive game of plastic pegs. Another similar film, also thought to be of a similar theme, was big time monster flick Pacific Rim which was directed by Guillermo del Toro.

With the Rampage movie, there's no telling of the movie's plot, but one would imagine there could be some kind of destruction going on. Dwayne did mention that he would be going to the San Diego Wildlife Preserve to study up on the movie. That being said, could it be guessed that he's studying the body language and mannerisms of an ape, lizard, and/or wolf? Which video game avatar of Rampage would you think he'd best portray?

Johnson also mentioned paying a visit to African anti-poaching units. A following quote from The Rock[5] at The Big Lead indicated the following.

"As big and fun as this movie is, the key is grounding it in research and authenticity. The entire team that brought you San Andreas is back and we can't wait to get started on this one. King Kong is just a little monkey compared to what these massive RAMPAGING ANIMALS can do."

In 2011, the Rampage movie was announced as being in development by New Line Cinema.

Some 80s video game fans recall shoving tons of quarters in the Rampage cabinet and having their pockets emptied out faster than you can say, "I need more quarters" in time for your next gaming dopamine rush. The object was quite simple in nature as you either played Lizzie, the Godilla-like looking lizard, George (of the Jungle?) who is a King Kong-sized gorilla, and then Ralph the werewolf.

All were giant-sized and the object of the button mashing video game was to take out as many buildings as possible per city while taking on the army, eating people, and rescuing damsels in distress.

These people were originally an elderly male, middle-aged man, and a young girl prior to their transformation per 80s video game lore. The premise four years ago was to "make a smartly-budgeted monster movie in the vein and tone of Ghostbusters and Independence Day," but may not stick to the plan[6], according to Slash Film.

The Rampage movie announcement came and went. Four years later, it was disclosed that San Andreas director Peyton would be joining the project along with Johnson. Beau Flynn and John Rickard were announced to be producing in a report also by Slash Film.

If anyone recalls Cuse and Condal's original works, they first came together on NBC's The Sixth Gun pilot, according to Variety. They joined up again working on Colony, which has been doing rather well as of late. Variety also reported they will be re-writing the Rampage movie. The previous draft was put together by Ryan Engle[12] and the movie plot is kept on the down low.

Independent comic fans might be interested to know that Ryan Condol was announced via The Hollywood Reporter to produce the Infinite Horizon[13] comic book adaptation of a six issue mini-series.

The Rampage movie may add to the nostalgia factor to those that lived in that era and would likely find it an amusing addition to 80s fans all over.

The story attempting to be told in "Tumbledown" isn't the problem. A moody folk star with a dozen well-received songs and a cult following dies, leaving behind his wife Hannah, who has had a hard time giving up her grief. Onto the scene comes an ambitious pop culture scholar, Andrew, angling to include untold details about the dead star in a forthcoming book.

Hannah is nasty and resistant to his interrogations at first, but eventually decides to partner with Andrew to write a biography. Problems ensue, including a jealous local meathead who has been sleeping with Hannah, and the existence of Andrew's New York girlfriend.

The acting is fine. The setting, Maine in winter, is a fitting parallel to Hannah's frozen heart.

Jason Sudeikis plays a biography writer and Rebecca Hall plays his subject's grieving widow in "Tumbledown," which our critic says is annoying due to bad storytelling.

So what's the problem?

A hundred small annoyances, including storylines that peter out into inexplicable dead ends, others — the meathead's jealousy — that drone on too long, a dozen too many reaction shots from Hannah's dogs, important characters whose motivations are unclear, and a lack of romantic chemistry between Hannah (Rebecca Hall) and Andrew (Jason Sudeikis).

Sudeikis' character Andrew finds Hannah (Rebecca Hall) still grieving her late musician husband.

Another annoyance is the lack of context given for the dismissal of Andrew's girlfriend (Dianna Agron). My best guess as to why she is dumped is that she is blond, enjoys dancing and is from New York City where women, it is sort of implied, are not as earthy and real as brunettes from Maine.

I don't buy that, and I don't buy that Hannah has evolved at all through the plot of the movie.

There are a lot of great movies out right now. You don't need to be annoyed.

(CNN)In theory, airports and cinemas seem made for each other.

If polls are anything to go by, the demand for more airport entertainment is sky high, and certainly cinemas can't ask for an audience more captive than one waiting out a long layover.

Yet few airports seem to have been willing to take the plunge, until now.

Portland International Airport[1] will soon be the latest in a slew of travel hubs to adopt a movie theater. And, being Portland, it's likely to be a hipster's dream.

Oregon shorts

Partnering with Portland's prohibition-era Hollywood Theatre[2], PDX is creating a vintage-style cinema for passengers on the go.

Viewers aren't likely to catch the latest blockbuster, however. But on the bright side, there's little fear of missing a flight; the cinema, which is slated to open in the summer, will mainly screen short films produced by local filmmakers.

Portland airport carpet inspires beer, memes, now sneakers

The idea is to showcase the artsy culture that makes Portland stand out.

"The films screened at PDX will introduce travelers to the diverse array of experiences Oregon and the surrounding region has to offer," says PDX spokeswoman Kama Simonds.

The last few years have seen a rise in airports adding movie theaters to the list of perks available to travelers.

In 2014, Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport became the first hub in the U.S. to have a cinema.

The See 18 Film Screening Room[4] runs 24/7 (so it doesn't matter how late -- or early -- take-off is). Like the PDX venture, the cinema screens art house flicks crafted by the region's top filmmakers, all curated with the help of The Film Society of Minneapolis-St. Paul.

The See 18 Film Screening Room opened in August 2014.

"Our objective is to give travelers a Minnesota experience," says Robyne Robinson, the arts and culture director of the MSP Airport Foundation. The screening mainly features short films and award-winning documentaries.

In a similar vein, last year, Miami International introduced a pop-up cinema, showcasing silent film classics like Buster Keaton's "One Week."

    Asia leading the way

Though the trend may be gaining slow traction in the U.S., airports in Asia have been embracing movie theaters for years.

Singapore's Changi Airport has two 24-hour theaters[5] that screen the latest blockbusters free of charge.

You can see blockbusters such as "Jurassic World" and "Man of Steel" for free at Changi Airport.

Hong Kong International also boasts the world's first airport IMAX[6] (showing movies in 2D and 3D), and in 2013 Delhi's Indira Gandhi International launched a 6D cinema, complete with moving seats and 21 special effects that range from bubbles to simulated snow.

The airports staffed by ... animals

Of course, not every airport has the infrastructure for a cinema, no matter how cozy. This fact has spearheaded the expansion of Digiboo[8], a company that has fitted several U.S. airports with movie download kiosks.

Travelers can download a selection of classics and new releases onto their personal devices, which they can then watch in-flight or while waiting out a layover at the airport.

"Digiboo doesn't require planning ahead or remembering to download before you leave your home," says Richard Cohen, CEO at Digiboo.

"Our customers can quickly and conveniently pick up a movie or two for their trip without any hassle or disappointment," he adds.

What better solution for airport boredom?

Grobar Jug writes: Hey guys, I have been following you since good old AMC days. My question is about Batman v Superman. Movie is so close but we haven't heard anything about Jim Gordon. Do you think he is dead? Or they are saving him for solo Batman movie?

Alex Espinal writes: Big fan, I watch everyday! I read this article about a new app that sells movie tickets in which the prices would vary depending on availability. This would ultimately push for theaters to fill more seats. As a New Yorker who pays premium price for what the rest of the nation calls regular movie ticket prices, I would love for this to happen. Thoughts? Thanks and bring on the filthy.

"The curtain opening on the screen. The smell of popcorn. Your generation will never know that."

So opens the teaser trailer for French sci-fi film Ickerman[1], which imagines a future where virtual reality rules society. It seems like an eerily plausible future, as virtual reality makes headlines at 2016's tech expos and even at Sundance. Just today, HitFix's Drew McWeeny speculated[2] on the possibility that Star Wars is the property that may bring virtual reality i nto the mainstream.

But in Ickerman that exciting tech has a dark side — the death of movie theaters (a nightmarish future for any film fan!) and the dangers of being so plugged into VR that you need to be rescued back to reality.

Today Ickerman filmmakers Raphaël Hernandez and Savitri Joly-Gonfard dropped a teaser trailer for the movie. The teaser is more like a proof-of-concept video — one with a Blade Runner-reminiscent metropolis and a Tron-esque freeway that the duo created with a budget of only 1000 euros. C'est très chouette.

Watch the teaser below and scroll past the video for more of what we know about Ickerman's plot and main character.

Hernandez and Joly-Gonfard plan to shoot Ickerman in early 2017. This is the synopsis we have right now:

Taking place in a futuristic megalopolis where new technologies and virtual reality are ruling society, Ickerman follows the adventures of a nostalgic high school teacher obsessed with 35 mm films and old cars. As he tries to rescue his best friend from the guru of this digital era, he falls into his imaginary world, acting like the characters he admires, and gives back to this world a part of reality.

Pope Francis[1], the head of the global Catholic church, is to be the first pope to appear in a film. The pontiff will play himself in Beyond the Sun, an Italian-made family movie based on the gospels, which was inspired by the Pope's call for film-makers to cater for children when thinking about how Jesus's message should be communicated through cinema.

All profits from the film are to be donated to two Argentinian charities that help at-risk children and young adults. Shooting is due to begin imminently in Italy.

Andrea Iervolino, co-founder of AMBI Pictures, who will fund and distribute the film, said:

Our excitement and gratitude toward His Holiness, Pope Francis, participating in this film is beyond words. This is not just a movie for us, it's a message, and who better to have on your side to deliver an important societal and spiritual message than the Pope?

However, there are conflicting reports about the scale of Pope Francis's involvement in the project. Initial indications suggested he would figure significantly through the movie; information on AMBI's site mentions only "an epilogue from Pope Francis telling children how and where to find Jesus".

A Vatican spokesman added on Monday: "The pope is not an actor."

Pope Francis's cinephilia – his favourite films are Rome, Open City[2], Babette's Feast[3] and La Strada[4] – has won him artistic as well as spiritual credibility in the industry, with many film-makers seeking his approval, particularly if their movie carries Christian content.

In 2012, Steve Coogan hosted a special screening of Philomena[6], about an Irish woman whose son was sold by nuns, at the Vatican; in January 2015, Angelina Jolie presented her film Unbroken to the pope[7]. Last week, Leonardo DiCaprio[8] met the pope – but to discuss climate change, rather than screen him new movie The Revenant.
